Winter Solstice Drumming Circle/Ceremony
Drumming Circle on an Aircraft Carrier

Gratitude

In the Celtic tradition Samhain, November 1 – January 31 is a time of restoration, rejuvenation, renewal, remembering the ancestors, death and the conception of new life.

North on the medicine wheel of many Native American traditions stands for winter, the ancestors and elders, endings, late life to death wisdom and gratitude.

During this season of harvest and putting to bed our year, we at Path Home would like to express our deep gratitude for all that has been brought to us.

It is our desire and intent to serve Spirit and help our brothers and sisters find their way, as we find our own, to a better way during these turbulent times.

We could not do this with out the wonderful support of all our friends out there who have attended our programs, joined our email family, enrolled in the school or had private sessions at our clinic. As you are engaging in your personal path, you create a beacon for others to do the same. We are humbled by your courage and deeply grateful for who you are.

In Gratitude to you,
All of my relations,

Gwilda Wiyaka

Writings:

The Fomorians
By Gwilda Wiyaka

Some ordinary-reality history:

In Irish-Celtic mythology, the Fomorians are a race of demonic giants, ancient occupants of Ireland (or sometimes mentioned as a mythical, prehistoric people who raided and pillaged Ireland from the sea). The first to invade Ireland were the Partholons, but after many battles the Fomorians afflicted them all with plague. After them came the Nemeds, who in their very first battle were defeated and enslaved. The third wave of invaders, the Firbolgs , were more successful and they subdued the Fomorians and managed to live peacefully with them.

After a period of peace, the Tuatha Dé Danann, the Irish race of gods, arrived. They conquered the Firbolgs, but dealt more subtly with the Fomorians, although they destroyed their hegemony over Ireland for good in the second battle of Mag Tuireadh. The Fomorians were given the province of Connacht, and were even allowed to marry some of the Tuatha Dé. The king of the Fomorians is the one-eyed Balor. Other prominent members are: Bres, Eriu, and Tethra.

The Fomorians are sometimes mythologically associated with the powers of nature which challenge man: fog, storm, winter, disease, crop-blight. They are also associated with the forces of Chaos. The name comes from fomó, "giant", "pirate".

From a non-ordinary reality perspective:
What are evil Fomorians?

As mentioned above, the Fomorians are powers of nature gone awry and forces of chaos that challenge our well being.

So what are the evil Fomorians made of? They’re made of our denial, they’re made of our fear, they’re made of negative inundations and thought forms that we’ve not been responsible for. They are our half-formed Frankensteins from intended manifestations that have not been cultivated and brought into being, nor have they been dismantled and our creative essence freed to form something new.

There is nothing here that we haven’t created. However, we’ve denied so much as a culture and feared so much of our denials as a people, that we have created our denials and our fears. These fears and denials are part of what creates the “evil” Fomorians.

Evil meaning not of nature, not natural, out of its place; ghosts, goblins and things that go bump in the night.

Fomorians and “The Wild Hunt” are taken from the Celtic tradition. It is the shaman’s job to fight the evil Fomorians in the wild hunt each season of Samhain, (November 1, - January 31) to protect his/her people and their way of life. It is during this time, that the veil is thinnest between worlds and the shaman can access and dismantle that which no longer serves us while it is still in spirit before it manifests physically into something not to our liking or benefit.

I would like to credit Tom Cowan for bringing this powerful work to me through his workshop “The Wild Hunt” and encouraging me to pass it on to my students

It is preferable to do this work as a group because a group of shaman is very, very powerful and can access and move things that an individual shaman cannot. This is because in group power and group energy 1+1=3. Agreement is a very powerful thing and it has taken the agreement of an entire culture (in denial) to create the Fomorian energy in the first place.

It is for this reason that the Wild Hunt is a part of the Path Home workshop Manifestation Level 1. We first must dismantle that which no longer serves, and free up our creative energies to plant that which we need into our futures. Also, as future and existing shamanic practitioners, we are given an opportunity every Samhain to participate in protecting our people and communities from the effects of the Evil Fomorians.

So this Samhain, know your shamanic practitioners are out working hard for you in non-ordinary reality as they bravely battle the creators of disease, natural disasters, chaos and hardship.

Also, in so doing we are praying for abundance and peace and health and good things for all of our people and all of our relations.

Blessings to you,
Gwilda Wiyaka

Clinic News:

Drumming Circle on an Aircraft Carrier

TFor the last three years Gwilda has been performing and focusing drumming circles for an innovative company based in Keystone, CO. This company serves as an experiential “think tank” for large companies all over the country when they get ready to design a new program. Often times, for example, it is all the CEOs of a hospital getting together to design a new hospital. This company holds a week-long retreat full of new experiences and programs designed to help the participants work as a team in a new way, and to think outside of the box. Gwilda’s work is an integral part of this experience.

Over the years the resultant experience of opening their week together with a drumming circle designed to unite them in one heart has been amazing. Entire hospitals have been designed and built on the principles of the four directions. Gwilda introduces these principles during the drumming ceremony. Her explanations and greeting of the directions in ceremony have had some tremendous effect. For instance, after explaining that North represented winter/old age, East as the new day and new beginnings, the center as our heart, a most remarkable response came from the group she was presenting to. A new hospital was planned with Geriatrics in the North, Pediatrics in the East, Cardiology in the Center, and so on.

Gwilda will go to great measures to accommodate these programs because she sees, the owner, as a person of great integrity courageous enough to put his entire future on the line to bring Spirit, artistry, and heart into corporate America. It has usually involved traveling to Keystone, spending the night, performing early the next morning and then traveling home.

This last time they contacted her to do a drumming circle for them was different. An experience guide for the company called Gwilda and said, “We have an interesting proposition for you. Would you be willing to travel out to New York City and perform a drumming circle on an aircraft carrier?”

Gwilda accepted and she and her drums were air shipped out to New York City three weeks later. When she arrived she went straight from the airport to the air craft carrier Intrepid where her 20 drums were waiting for her, including her 3 foot diameter pow-wow drum. She set up the drums and chairs in a circle in a glass room on the ship looking out over the Hudson River.

The next afternoon Gwilda returned to the Intrepid and performed a drumming circle for 19 CEOs from banks all over the country, competitors that had come together to form something new. Not a one of them had ever been in a drumming circle yet when Gwilda hit the big drum and the sound reverberated through the hull of the ship into the Hudson and bounced off the windows they all joined in never missing a beat. Many chants and beats later you would have thought they played together for years. When the last strains of the haunting closing chant fell into silence there were more than one set of misty eyes in the room and a feeling of unity that is hard to describe. Something was forever changed.

As Gwilda looked out the window of the airplane the next morning on her way out of New York and noted the lack of the twin towers it felt as if a wound could now close and a new chapter begin. She prayed that it was so.
